Chandan Roy Sanyal: Buddhadeb Dasgupta’s compliment feels like my first award, says Urojahaj actor

In his interview to SpotboyE, internationally acclaimed director Buddhadeb Dasgupta has said that Chandan Roy Sanyal has a face that makes him suitable to play any character. This is what Chandan Roy Sanyal has to say in response. The actor says, “It is a big compliment and an honour that someone of Mr. Dasgupta’s stature has said this. As an actor, I’ve never won an award in my entire life. I think this is my first award! That my director feels that I can pull off any character under the sun.”

Chandan Roy Sanyal had also worked with Buddhadeb Dasgupta in his 2016 film Tope (The Bait). He says, “Working with Buddha Da is always an experience. I think he is one of the finest directors we have. Working in two of his films, back to back, is a great learning experience as well as a trial for any actor. It is a test of your skills, because one must be really skillful as an artist to be working in such films. It is quite an experience. I feel improved as an actor after working with Buddha Da.”


Is there a chance of getting to see Chandan Roy Sanyal in mainstream Bengali films anytime soon? The talented actor smiles, “Nobody has cast me in mainstream Bangla films. Maybe I’m not cut out for that. I have no idea. Though last year I did Rokto Rohoshyo, directed by Soukarya Ghosal. The film also has Koel Mallick. I think it will release this year. And if another great script comes along, I am open to mainstream Bengali films.”


Chandan Roy Sanyal has just finished shooting for the second season of the Zee5 web series Kaali, which also stars Paoli Dam.
