IPL 2020: Team Owners Pen A Letter To BCCI Opposing Last Minute Play-Off Pay Cuts
Indian Premier League is one of the most talked-about and most celebrated tournaments played in India. With team owners being celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Parth Jindal and others, IPL is one big event for all the cricket fans. IPL 2020 is soon to kick-off, however, the latest report suggests that the team owners are not happy with the last minute play-off pay cuts that have been introduced by BCCI.

As per Mumbai Mirror, the IPL budget has been cut to half. Reportedly, BCCI sent an email to team owners announcing that the teams who will qualify for the play-offs will only get Rs 25 crore to distribute among themselves. This move is due to the country's economic slowdown. Earlier, the budget of play-offs was Rs 50 crore. Giving the breakup, the report mentions that the winning team will get Rs 10 crore, while the first runner-up will get Rs 6.25 crore. The other two teams making to top four will get Rs 4.37 crore each.

With this announcement coming when the tournament is less than four weeks away, the team owners wrote a letter to BCCI stating, "It is too late for us to recalibrate our financial models and the proposed changes will cause significant and unexpected financial complications." Further, the letter read, "The play-off standing fee continues to be a strong incentive for teams to continually improve the performance which, we all believe, has benefited Indian cricket in no small measure We collectively believe rewinding that will be a step backwards in the progress of IPL."

Apart from this, team owners have also been asked to pay Rs 50 Lakh to the centre for hosting the game.
