Siddharth Mahadevan: I Don’t Want To Be Another Arijit Singh Or Sonu Nigam
Shankar Mahadevan’s son Siddharth Mahadevan has set his foot strong in the music industry. He has lent his voice for hit numbers like Zinda from Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013), Malang from Dhoom 3 (2013), Pehli Baar from Dil Dhadakne Do (2015) and the most recent one, Main Hoon from Tiger Shroff’s Munna Michael.

We caught up with the young talented singer for a quick chat. Read on as Siddharth talks about his career, his father and more...

Tell us about your latest song Main Hoon from Munna Michael.
Main Hoon is a peppy number. The first time Tanishk Bagchi called me to his studio to record the track, I instantly connected with it. The melody of the song is fabulous and it was composed keeping Tiger Shroff’s dancing abilities in mind.

Siddharth Mahadevan Sings His Heart Out

It took us an hour-and-a-half to record the song because we were trying different textures and variations.  I am really happy being associated with this project as I am also an ardent fan of Michael Jackson.

How was it working with Tanishk Bagchi for the first time?
It was amazing. We had a lot of fun recording the song. The best part about Tanishk is that as a composer, he knows what he wants. So, he guides you very efficiently which helps a singer to emote better.

Being Shankar Mahadevan's son, do you feel the pressure of being judged?
No. I don’t actually. I was very apprehensive during my first song and wondered if people will accept my work or not. Now, I only think about doing good work. Also, I feel that it is very important that you create your own identity. I do not want to be another Shankar Mahadevan or Sonu Nigam or Arijit Singh.  I think that has happened. I just want to keep doing good work rather than think about what people are saying. If somebody hears my voice and recognizes that it is me, then my job is done.

Siddharth Mahadevan poses With Daddy Shankar Mahadevan

As you’re also a composer, who is your bouncing board?
I compose with my cousin Soumil. We have done many regional projects together. We criticise each other’s tunes and compositions. At times even my dad gives his feedback and I follow him blindly. If there are 10 people in my house who like a tune and only dad doesn’t like it, I still go by his opinion. However, he never interferes in the creative process.
