The story of It Happened In Calcutta is set in the 60s era when Kusum Ganguly, the first girl to seek admission in a medical college to become a doctor meets the rich brat and Casanova Ronbir Chatterjee. Just like a typical Hindi film, their enmity soon translates into love.
An innocent girl like Kusum, dotes heavily on Ronbir. However, his marriage is already fixed with another girl, so their love story doesn’t proceed ahead. Some years later, when the outbreak of Cholera happens in Calcutta and amidst growing stress between India-Pakistan, Ronbir and Kusum meet again and what happens next is what you’ll find out when you see the web show.
While watching It Happened In Calcutta, you will get the feeling that you’re watching an old rehashed version of a Balaji series. But, when you talk about an ALTBalaji show, you surely do anticipate some bold content, so yes, this web series is quite high on the Beep Meter.
Both Karan Kundra and Naghma Rizwaan have played their characters to the tee. But, the show doesn’t convincingly create the aura of 1960s-70s. Even the background score fails to strike a chord. Because of its poor writing and direction, we can say ‘Nothing Really Happened in Calcutta’.
