Digital Star Mithila Palkar is the Internet’s Favourite Girl. Here’s why.
Mithila Palkar made her debut with some of our favourite web shows. We went down memory lane to see what her journey has been like
It often seems like the term, girl next door, was made for Mithila Palkar. Her super acting skills, her relatable social media presence and her vivacious offline personality all make her one of the most popular Internet sensations of our time. With the immense success she has gained in the past few years, it is tough to believe that Mithila is only 26 years old! Recently voted IMDB’s breakout star of the month in June, we decided to trace back her steps to success.
Mithila entered the limelight in the year 2015 with her Bollywood debut film, Katti Batti. The film also starred Imran Khan and Kangana Ranaut and was directed by Nikkhil Advani of Airlift and D-day fame. While the film was a failure at the box office, Mithila had already made her mark.
In 2016, Mithila bagged her first web series, Girl in The City for Bindass. She played the lead role of Meera Sehgal, a spoiled girl who moves to the city of Mumbai. The character was real and soon Mithila was noticed as an effortless actor. The show has recently wrapped its third season.
In 2017, Mithila began collaborating with actor and writer, Dhruv Sehgal, who helped bring to life Kavya Kulkarni, arguably Mithila’s most famous character yet. The show Little Things was a runaway success and Kavya became synonymous with Mithila’s identity. Recently, Netflix produced the second season of Little Things which was met with the same amount of love and appreciation.
Soon after, Mithila was all over the internet – in memes, in viral videos, in other shows. It was evident that this was something new, that she was shaping popular culture in a unique way. Why? Because people understood her. They related to her and they loved the person she is.
In 2018, Mithila entered the Bollywood domain again with Karwaan. This sweet road film also starred Irrfan Khan and Dulquer Salman. Both critics and fans were raving about Mithila’s stellar performance.
Mithila’s latest release was the quirky Netflix India original Chopsticks, co-starring Abhay Deol which made her a global favourite! Oh and did we mention that in the middle, Mithila also gave a Ted Talk and was on Forbes India’s list of 30 under 30? All this along with being IMDB’s Breakout Star of the Month, June 2019.
