Ayushmann Khurrana and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Gulabo Sitabo has been a highly anticipated film, right from the moment it was announced. Fans were curious to see the fresh pairing of Ayushmann and Amitabh Bachchan and were excited to watch the two brilliant actors share screen space. The film premiered on Amazon Prime today, and opened to a positive response from fans on social media. But did you know it was at Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone’s wedding reception that director Shoojit Sircar offered the role to Ayushmann?
Shoojit Sircar opened up about the casting of Ayushmann in the film, and looks like he first shared the idea with Ayushmann at Deepika Padukone’s wedding reception, In an interview with Zoom TV, Shoojit Sircar said, “Yes, he (Ayushmann) was the first choice but before that we debated a lot. His casting was done later. First was Mr Bachchan's casting and then I remember I think I broke the news to him, I remember it was....Deepika Padukone's reception (laughs). So at that reception, I gave him the basic narration, I remember. And you know that's when we agreed (to do the film). He was excited, he was jumping since then. So, I think we first bounced the idea to him at their reception.”
Well, that was interesting! Gulabo Sitabo happens to be Shoojit Sircar and Ayushmann Khurrana’s second collaboration after Vicky Donor, while Amitabh Bachchan has worked with the director in Piku.
