Saand Ki Aankh, Movie Review: Taapsee Pannu-Bhumi Pednekar Leave You Awestruck In A Film That Reminds You Of MS Dhoni's Batting Style
Saand Ki Aankh is a must-watch. Taapsee and Bhumi are wow
This is a film that every man and woman should watch. Howsoever, we may deny, a man is never fully comfortable if his better half goes out and makes a name for herself. Rural kya, urban kya, sach yahi hai. Jitna sunne mein taqleef hoti hai, usse jyaada bolne mein.
Tusshar Hiranandani who has written so much till date, that even he must have lost count, marks his maiden directorial with a lot of honesty and conviction. Saand Ki Aankh hits the bull's eye alright, but I would have loved to see a little more juice in the storytelling. This inspiring film is flat and predictable in portions.
Subjugated by our conservative society (slick gadgets, extra-lit malls and glamorous branded clothes don't make a society modern), Taapsee and Bhumi go all out to pin their detractors down- be it their body language, diction, get-up or histrionics. What amazed me was their camraderie, let me use the word chemistry, that these two have with each other. Did they go to the same school and grow up together?
Taapsee is once again brilliant in every frame. Oh, she is so natural. I loved that scene where you give Prakash Jha a piece of his mind.
And Miss Pednekar? You surprised me. You have taken yourself a notch higher. Your tears and anger were so real.
Vineet Kunar Singh is just about okay. Wonder what's his possessiveness about the only expression he had throughout the film, which showed almost half his teeth.
Prakash Jha is fine. Shaad Randhawa should have been around in family matters a little more- suddenly springs up as an Army man and hogs just one scene towards the end.
This inspiring film is flat and predictable in portions. That's the only issue I had with this film, and this need not be the universal opinion. May I elaborate that it moves in the straightest line ever seen, right till the interval and even a good 30 minutes after that. All the drama is left for too late. Tushar and the two lovely ladies definitely compensate successfully and I couldn't help remembering M S Dhoni's style of keeping a lot aside to be scored in the final overs.
Hardly any music and no male protagonist, Tushar yet hits the last ball six in Dhoni style and romps home to leave whispers in the public coming out: 'Second half mein utha liya'.
Going with THREE-and-HALF.
