Bhoot- The Haunted Ship, Movie Review: Can't Root For This Vicky Kaushal Horror
Even Vicky Kaushal has no expression of fright on his face in this horror, err, stunt drama!
It is very difficult to make someone laugh, but it is very easy to make someone scared. So Mr Bhanu Pratap Singh (director) goes about the job assigned to him by Karan Johar (producer) in a somewhat meticulous way for the first half but suddenly loses hold almost completely in the second. What follows is an out-n-out action, err, stunt drama. The golden moments of the start are all washed away by the waves of Juhu beach. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Karan Johar is genuinely feeling let down.
The thing that hurts the most in the film is Vicky Kaushal. This promising actor who has almost become a rage has no fright on his face in almost any scene, even when the bhoot is standing 20 metres away from him! To top this, he goes inside the ship several times as a pure investigator
Couldn't empathise with him when he keeps remembering his wife and child who got drowned due to a freak accident. Uff, images of Aamir Khan in Talash in similar circumstances kept flashing in front of my eyes. What a fine performance that was! And how can I forget the rengte kare kar dene wali Bhoot from RGV and that brilliant performance from Urmila Matondkar? Uff, that scene where she goes berserk when the doctor comes to see her!
The stage is more or less decently set and you go for your cup of tea with a whole lot of questions: Is Vicky hallucinating? Is the ship really haunted? What happened in the vessel in 2001? But when you come back and have hardly had a few sips, this man is only breaking doors and falling off from heights, almost unscathed despite attacks on him by the ghost. And hey, every time he lands up with a minor bruise which is flaunted!
Ashutosh Rana is purely wasted in a role which didn't even need to exist. And what were those mantras he was reciting?
Bhumi Pednekar is fine, she effervesces the screen in her cameo bit.
Do we really need a Part 2 for this one? I am not putting my hand up. Okay, let's have it but not with Bhanu as the captain of the ship.

I have loved several films from Karan's stable and he certainly didn't deserve Bhanu Pratap Singh pitching in with this.
