World Music Day: Kalki Koechlin Slams India's Ever-Increasing Noise Pollution
Kalki Koechlin released her short film, Noise, sometime ago and it takes on the problem which most Indians face but shy away from addressing –noise pollution
Be it films she is part of or matters than concern women, Kalki Koechlin has never shied from expressing her opinion. On the occasion of World Music Day, the actress takes on the issue of noise pollution and has released a short film titled, Noise. Check it out:
In this short film, she slams the ever-increasing noise pollution in the country. Not only has she addressed the noise at traffic signals and during festivals, she has also condemned the morning azaan at the mosque, the church bells and the loud prayers at a temple.
“I wrote this poem last October for a poetry slam competition in Bangalore and performed it for the opening ceremony. The topic was the overwhelming amount of noise in the country, be it religious or political, or the deafening sounds in our heads. By highlighting them, we want to highlight the value of silence,” the actress asserts.
You may recall that a couple of months ago, Sonu Nigam had found himself amidst controversy when he went on a Twitter rant against Muslims and the Azaan call.
Sonu Nigam Tweets Against Azaan, Calls It ‘Forced Religiousness’
The celebrated singer began by saying that he is not a Muslim, but is forced to wake up by the Azaan and termed the scenario “forced religiousness.”
He further elaborated on how Prophet Mohammad lived in an era where there was no electricity and compared the Azaan to a cacophony.
Needless to say, the volley of tweets invited severe backlash from fans. A few even compared him to Abhijeet Bhatacharya, who happens to be controversy’s favourite child, and is known for making blasphemous statements
