Neena Gupta, who recently exited Sooryavanshi where she was to play Akshay Kumar’s mother, has now been brought on board to play the part of Kapil Dev’s mother in the star cricketer’s biopic ’83. Makers of Sooryavanshi realised after commencing work on the film that Neena’s track, that of Akshay Kumar’s mother, did not add much to the story, said reports.
The news of Neena being welcomed in the much-anticipated flick, ’83, comes on a day when the senior actress’ film, The Last Colour, directed by Michelin Star Chef, Vikas Gupta, has made to the Oscars. It’s in the running for the Best Film Oscar (with 343 other films) along with heavy weights like The Irishman and Avengers: Endgame. According to a report in Pinkvilla, Neena Gupta would be playing Ranveer Singh’s mother in the film and it will be a short yet impactful role. “I have a small cameo in Kabir Khan's '83. I play Kapil Dev as in Ranveer Singh's mother in the film. I have just shot for it," said the talented actress.
Talking about Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi, Mid-day had reported that after filming for the movie for a few days the makers thought that Neena Gupta’s role, that of Akshay Kumar’s mother, was not fitting in seamlessly in the narration. She was very supportive and understanding of the situation and graciously decided to exit the film.
