Rati Agnihotri & Husband Booked For Rs 47 Lakh Electricity Theft Case
BEST’s vigilance squad has alleged that the electricity meter of the actress’s penthouse at Worli was tampered with, causing it losses of Rs 47 lakh (approx) over 3 years
Two years ago,
veteran actress Rati Agnihotri made headlines when she accused her businessman
husband Anil Virwani of domestic violence. Now, she is amidst controversy, yet
again.
Rati and Anil
have been booked in a case of electricity theft of Rs 46.9 lakh at their
residence. BEST's vigilance squad on Thursday alleged that the electricity meter for
the actress’s spacious penthouse at Worli seaface was tampered with, causing it losses to the tune of Rs
47 lakh over three years.
According to a
police official, an engineer noticed that the Virwanis had allegedly not paid
for 1,77,647 units of electricity by tampering the meter since April 4, 2013.

The official
further added that an FIR was registered at Worli police station yesterday
against Rati and her husband for the theft of Rs 46.9 lakh worth electricity
under section 135 of Indian Electricity Act.
Zonal deputy
police commissioner Pravin
Padwal said, “We have registered a case of electricity theft
amounting to Rs 46.9 lakh. We are probing the issue.”
While the actress
could not be reached, when contacted, Virwani said, “Neither me nor Rati nor my
son Tanuj is in Mumbai right now. I was shocked when I learnt about the matter
this afternoon. There has been some misunderstanding and I will address the
issue when I return to the city. We have been living in this apartment building
for nine or ten years and nothing of this sort has happened before. I am
saddened that I was not given a chance to explain. The officials arrived and
said they wanted to see the house so I called two of my staff members and
allowed them in. I am completely taken by surprise.”
