Ranveer Singh And Alia Bhatt Starrer Gully Boy Is OUT Of Oscars 2020, Here's Why
Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer Gully Boy was gearing up to make a banging entry to Oscars 2020 but unfortunately, the film is now out the race, much to the fans’ dismay
In September, producer Farhan Akhtar took everyone by surprise when he announced that Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer Gully Boy has become India’s official entry to Oscars 2020. While the makers were completely overwhelmed with this news, Twitteratis too cannot seem to contain their happiness and started pouring in congratulatory messages on social media with a hope to see Gully Boy bringing the prestigious award home. However, what we have heard the latest has just brought us disappointment as Gully Boy is now out the race for the Academy Awards.
According to the Oscars’ official website, they have announced shortlists in consideration for the 92nd Academy Awards in nine categories which includes Documentary Feature, International Feature Film, Music (Original Score), Animated Short Film, among others. Unfortunately, Gully Boy is not in the list of any of these categories as it has been not shortlisted in the nominations which makes Zoya Akhtar’s directorial venture out of the race of Oscars 2020. Earlier, there were reports suggesting that Gully Boy was among the 26 entries from India made to the Oscars. So far only three films including Aamir Khan's Lagaan, Mother India and Mira Nair's Salaam Bombay have made it to the last round of Oscars. Notable international films to make the shortlist for the category include The Painted Bird (Czech Republic), Les Misérables (France), Atlantics (Senegal), Parasite (South Korea) and Pain and Glory (Spain). Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer Gully Boy was one of the blockbuster films of 2019. The film which is based on an underdog rapper named, Divine and Naezy. The music from the streets hit all the right chords for the audience. The film even won big for their music along with Ranveer, Alia and Siddhanth Chaturvedi also swept away some awards this year.
