It was recently announced by The Academy that Oscars 2021 is postponed by 2 months from its actual date, due to the global Coronavirus pandemic. Now, the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences announced that this year they are extending invitations to 819 artists and executives and mentioned that the 2020 class will have 45% women, 36% underrepresented ethnic/racial communities, and 49% international from 68 countries. From India, stars Alia Bhatt and Hrithik Roshan and other executives have reportedly received the invitation. Now, filmmaker Hansal Mehta has reacted to Alia Bhatt and Hrithik Roshan receiving invitations for Oscars 2021.

Taking to his official Twitter handle, filmmaker Hansal Mehta gave a sarcastic take on Alia Bhatt and Hrithik Roshan receiving invitations. Filmmaker Hansal Mehta tweeted, “Nepotistic Academy,” amidst the sparked up Nepotism debate on social media. Hansal Mehta retweeted a tweet made by a social media user and gave his take on the latest move made by the Academy.

The tweet made by the social media user read, “Alia Bhatt, Hrithik Roshan, casting director Nandini Shrikent, Neeta Lulla, Shirley Abraham, Amit Madheshiya, Nishtha Jain, Vishal Anand and Sandeep Kamal (visual effects), Sabrina Dhawan, V Senthil Kumar feature in @TheAcademy’s invitee list.”


Meanwhile, apart from Alia and Hrithik, costume designer Neeta Lulla, casting director Nandini Shrikent, documentary filmmakers Nishtha Jain, Shirley Abraham, Amit Madheshiya, visual effects supervisors Vishal Anand and Sandeep Kamal, Sabrina Dhawan, V Senthil Kumar are also among the 819 artistes and executives who have received the invitations for the upcoming 93rd Academy Awards. Oscars 2021 will take place on April 25, 2021, while the nominations will be announced on March 15, 2021.
