It was just recently when Indian celebrities including Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tiger Shroff, Disha Patani and more expressed their rage over the death of African American man George Floyd who was pinned down by a white police office until irresponsive. With almost the whole of the USA and many others worldwide have been expressing their rage after a viral video of George Floyd’s death circulated on social media, National Conference leader and vice-president Omar Abdullah took a sly dig at Indian celebrities for tweeting about American lives.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Omar Abdullah tweeted, “So much respect for all the celebrities tweeting #BLACK_LIVES_MATTER. It takes courage to bring your cowardice to the fore when you tweet for American lives but can’t tweet for Indian lives.” In his tweet, Abdullah called out Indian celebrities for expressing their concerns about American lives before Indian lives. The NC leader mentioned that he has much respect for all the celebrities tweeting about #BLACK_LIVES_MATTER but questioned in return on why they can’t tweet for Indian lives.

Talking about the posts made by some Indian celebrities including Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Kareena Kapoor Khan, the actress shared Instagram posts expressing their anger on the tragic death of George Floyd. Actress Disha Patani also shared a tweet for which she faced severe backlash from fans for being a hypocrite.

Meanwhile, the African American man named George Floyd died on May 25, 2020, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, after a white police officer pressed his knee on his neck for more than eight minutes until irresponsive. While the police officer has been charged with murder, the death of George Floyd has created a furore in the USA with people taking to the streets and protesting in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
