Ever since the promo of Madhur Bhandarkar’s Indu Sarkar was dropped on
social media, speculations of the main characters inspired by Indira Gandhi and
Sanjay Gandhi kept the grapevine buzzing. However, the film had another
character which took reference from real life – Rukhsana Sultana.
Rashmi Jha Plays Rukhsana Sultana In Indu Sarkar
Popularly known as “glamour girl of Emergency”, Rukhsana Sultana was
actress Amrita Singh’s mother and had a pivotal role to play during the period
and was allegedly close to Sanjay Gandhi.
We contacted Rashmi and asked her if she had met Amrita before stepping
into her mother’s shoes and she says, “Are you crazy?” adding, “She will kill
me!”

While some reports suggested that the political drama pocketed Rs 1.42
crore on Day 1, some said that it had made a mere Rs 85 lakh.
The National Award-winning filmmaker clarified with SpotboyE.com that
Indu Sarkar earned Rs 1.42 crore on Day 1 followed by Rs 1.60 crore on Day 2.
The film has seen a steady growth over 2 days.
In fact, a source close to Bhandarkar revealed that PVR Cinemas has
increased its shows across 17 properties (belonging to their chain) across
Mumbai city.
After facing one controversy after another, the political drama hit theatres on
July 28.
Set against the backdrop of Emergency (1975-77), the project stars Kirti
Kulhari, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Tota Roy Chowdhury and Anupam Kher.
