As the latest statement coming in from Nanavati Hospital, Mumbai reassures that superstar Amitabh Bachchan is ‘stable’, and the entire nation prays  for the megastar's speedy recovery from COVID-19; former Chief of Amnesty India, Aakar Patel, is at the receiving end of severe backlash on Twitter. Patel’s comments on Amitabh Bachchan are not being taken kindly by the superstar’s fans on the micro-blogging site. Soon as reports of Amitabh Bachchan testing positive for Coronavirus emerged online, Patel went ahead and opined, “I hope he’s well and lives to be 100. But it’s true that Amitabh Bachchan represents the worst qualities of Indian middle class opportunism.”

That’s not all, Patel went on to spew more venom, and with his next tweet, he chose to attack not just Amitabh Bachchan but also actor Akshay Kumar and cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. He wrote, “No matter how much money they make, Bachchan, Akshay and Sachin will remain middle class in the worst sense of the phrase. Petty, opportunistic, frog in well mentality and oblivious to larger good. Never liked them. Got autographed Sachin bat. Gave it away.” Not agreeing with his statements, netizens lambasted him. Comments ranged from, “He needs attention. I'll give it to him” to “Sold outs like him are dime a dozen found lurking around power corridors!”

Patel continued with the rant, “Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar and Sachin Tendulkar are middle class opportunists. They show us that money is not same thing as class.”

Twitter is up in arms against former Amnesty India chief, his tweets are raking up a storm on the micro-blogging site. A netizen summed it up, “They have achieved what most middle class families aspire for. Give them credit for that and let them enjoy the fruits of their hard work.
