Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the numbers for Day 1 collection of Malang and wrote, “#Malang is decent on Day 1... Should’ve grossed higher given its genre... National multiplexes contribute 50%+ of Day 1 biz... Mass circuits low... Needs to show more than normal jump on Day 2, though biz in #Delhi will be limited... Fri ₹ 6.71 cr. #India biz.” He also compared Aditya Roy Kapur’s solo films and their opening collections. “#AdityaRoyKapur versus #AdityaRoyKapur... *Day 1* biz... 2013: #Aashiqui2 ₹ 6.25 cr 2014: #DaawatEIshq ₹ 3.72 cr 2016: #Fitoor ₹ 3.61 cr 2017: #OkJaanu ₹ 4.08 cr 2020: #Malang ₹ 6.71 cr Note: Solo hero films only. On the other hand, Shikara, which features debutants Aadil Khan and Sadia, and is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits, collected Rs 1.2 crore. Sharing the numbers, Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#Shikara surprises on Day 1... Released at multiplexes mainly, the biz gathered momentum post noon shows [a norm nowadays]... Needs to double its Day 1 number on Day 2 and maintain the trend on Day 3 for a respectable weekend total... Fri ₹ 1.20 cr. #India biz.”

Disha Patani- Aditya Roy Kapur starrer Malang and Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Shikara were both films of two completely different genres. While Malang dominated the box office, Shikara’s first day collections were surprisingly well, given that the film had no big stars.
