Coronavirus Outbreak: Irrfan Khan's Angrezi Medium's Business To Get Affected After Arvind Kejriwal Shuts Theatres – EXCLUSIVE
With the complete shutdown of theatres in Delhi due to coronavirus, here’s how the business of Irrfan Khan's Angrezi Medium will be affected as per trade analysts
Other than affecting so many lives and creating a worldwide panic, coronavirus has also left the film industry sector in a huge fix. Well, India itself has recorded a huge 70 plus cases so far, with around 15-18 from the capital city. As a consequence of the same, the CM of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, recently announced the shutdown of all the schools and theatres in the city until 31st March. Well, this is indeed bad news, considering Delhi is among one of the major sources of revenue for all the filmmakers and the city with the maximum moviegoers.
While Irrfan Khan’s Angrezi Medium is slated to release tomorrow. We, at SpotboyE, got in touch with trade analyst Girish Johar to know his two cents on how a major step like shutting down the theatres will affect the box-office collections of Angrezi Medium.
Girish said, “Ya, for sure. Delhi is one of the topmost markets of the country. It is one of the biggest revenue cities for India and shutting down cinemas in that region will affect a big chunk of share or the expected piece of revenue. So, it’s a major jolt for all the producers and I am looking forward to what actions or plans they are going to take because specifically for Angrezi Medium, the print for overseas has been already dispatched. And whether you release the film without releasing it in Delhi or not is a producer’s call. It’s definitely put them in a fix and it jolts down all the future releases also.”
Though Sooryavanshi is now officially postponed as Akshay Kumar just posted a confirmation regarding the same before the announcement had happened Girish Johar had hoped they do reschedule the release date as Delhi is a huge market. Girish said, “There is no official announcement, but since Delhi is a major chunk of revenue, the producer would not want to release it now. There have been times when the producers have let go of the film not releasing overseas, but Delhi can’t be ignored because it generates massive revenue. Delhi also indirectly affects the NCR region like Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon and others. So, I think they will definitely be in two minds, rather it should be a little easier for them because since Delhi is shut, they are most likely to postpone it.”
