First Day First Show: Half Girlfriend Off To A Slow Start At The Box-Office, Hindi Medium Fares Better
Arjun Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor starrer Half Girlfriend has got a lukewarm response but Irrfan Khan starrer comedy Hindi Medium has started on a positive note
Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Half Girlfriend
did not impress the critics and it has got a lukewarm response at the
box-office too. On the other hand, Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar starrer Hindi
Medium is expected to perform better, thanks to positive reviews and good
word-of-mouth publicity.
This morning, despite two releases, the theatres did not see huge crowds.
Both Half Girlfriend and Hindi Medium opened to
lacklustre collections at the box-office. Theatres bore the dull look this
morning, and the suburban theatres registered only 15-20% occupancy for Half
Girlfriend.
Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Half Girlfriend
has received bad reviews and even the people exiting the theatre were not
impressed. Arjun's Bihari accent did not go down well with the audience and
Mohit Suri's direction too was judged as lacking.
Moving on, Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar starrer Hindi
Medium may have had lesser number of screens, but showed about 35%
occupancy. More than Irrfan and Sara's acting, the plot of the movie was
talked about by the audience. Also Irrfan's witty one-liners kept them hooked.
Trade expert Taran Adarsh predicted the box-office fate
of the two films and said: "Half Girlfriend was disappointing in
every manner. I was especially disappointed because Mohit Suri is capable of
making great films. If you can't make a better film, at least make sure that
the new film is at par with the previous ones. Going on to Hindi Medium, it's a
film that completely surprised me. The film is a word-of-mouth film, and it has
all the potential to grow on good audience reviews through the coming
week.
