Know Whom Ghawre Bairey Aaj Director Aparna Sen Said ‘Thank You Munni’
Director Aparna Sen’s Ghawre Bairey Aaj has received appreciation from all corners. The film stars Jisshu Sengupta, Anirban Bhattacharya, Tuhina Das in the lead roles. The film talks about the current socio-political situation of the nation and many celebrities from Bollywood have also applauded the film.

But recently Aparna Sen had her old friend appreciating her work. She is none other than noted star Shahbana Azmi. She even penned down a note for her, “Despite attempts to instill fear in those who dissent or ask questions, there are still individuals – journalists like Lankesh, RTI and human rights activists – willing to hold people in power accountable.” Kalpana Sharma. In this fast diminishing list one name stands out loud and clear : Aparna Sen . In her latest film Ghawrey Baire Aaj she pulls out all the stops and puts her concerns out there without fear of consequence. Rina proves she is no arm chair intellectual but a blue blooded “Urban Naxal “😜😜 I was deeply moved by the film and I applaud her courage. “Will there be singing in the dark times ? Yes there will be singing about the dark times ..” Aparna Sen does it with limited resources but with the strength of her convictions and provides an experience that is disturbing and engaging.. but strangely leaves one with hope because the film dares us to speak out ..to put up resistance , to fight the good fight .. More power to you dear one.”

And in reply, Aparna said, “Thank you Munni. Coming from you, I know it comes from the heart, Comrade!”

The original story of Ghare Baire, written by Tagore, was about the clash of the contrasting ideologies of two friends Nikhilesh and Sandip. It was also about Bimala, wife of Nikhilesh, who is torn between these two men. It is about herself awakening about her inner and outer world.

The film, which was released on November 15, is set in the backdrop of Delhi where Anirban Bhattacharya is an editor of an online news website with a liberal point of view. His wife is Tuhina Das. After her parent’s death at a very young age, she moved to Delhi to her grandmother who was a house help at the posh bungalow owned by Nikhilesh’s parents. In fact, she was brought up by Nikhilesh’s parents who not only gave her proper education but also renamed her to Brinda to make her more acceptable in the high-class society. Later she got married to much older Nikhilesh. Jisshu Sengupta is the childhood friend of Nikhilesh who was a leftist student leader during his college days but now is a right-wing nationalist leader supported by a political party with an agenda of Hinduism. There is a clash of ideologies between two friends but still, they share a good rapport. One day Jisshu comes for a work assignment in Delhi and he preferred to stay at Anirbans home. Sandip has a contradictory nature compared to Nikhilesh is more radical and active and Brinda gets easily attracted to him for this nature.
